It wasn't just the Levites who compromised on God's standards, but many false prophets and teachers and the people themselves all became corrupt.
"Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who lead my people astray;
When they have something to bite with their teeth,
They cry, 'Peace,'
But against him who puts nothing in their mouths
They declare holy war.
Therefore it will be night for you—without vision,
And darkness for you—without divination.
The sun will go down on the prophets,
And the day will become dark over them.
The seers will be ashamed
And the diviners will be embarrassed.
Indeed, they will all cover their mouths
Because there is no answer from God.
On the other hand I am filled with power—
With the Spirit of the Lord—
And with justice and courage
To make known to Jacob his rebellious act,
Even to Israel his sin.
Now hear this, heads of the house of Jacob
And rulers of the house of Israel,
Who abhor justice
And twist everything that is straight,
Who build Zion with bloodshed
And Jerusalem with violent injustice.
Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe,
Her priests instruct for a price
And her prophets divine for money.
Yet they lean on the Lord saying,
'Is not the Lord in our midst?
Calamity will not come upon us.'
Therefore, on account of you
Zion will be plowed as a field,
Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins,
And the mountain of the temple will become high places of a forest." (Micah 3:5-12)
So all Israel sinned. That was why the prophet Micah made known to Israel his sin (Micah 3:8).
God said that the leaders perverted justice and twisted what was right, Jerusalem was filled with violent injustice and bloodshed, and all Israel followed the leaders. It was like the blind leading the blind.
So the Lord brought calamity on Israel because of their sins. Many people persecuted them including the Assyrians and Babylonians, and Romans and many others.
However, in the end times, God will make Israel glorious again.
God will discipline Israel in the wilderness like He did during the time of Moses. And He will purge from Israel all the wrongdoers:
“‘…I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face. As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you,’ declares the Lord God. ‘I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant; and I will purge from you the rebels and those who transgress against Me…'” (Ezekiel 20:36-38)
Then all Israel will be saved when Jesus comes to save them:
"For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,
'The Deliverer will come from Zion,
He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.'
'This is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.'" (Romans 11:25-27)
So all Israel will be saved by God one day in the future, "for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable" (Romans 11:29).
Jewish people will worship God in Israel:
“‘For on My holy mountain, on the high mountain of Israel,’ declares the Lord God, ‘there the whole house of Israel, all of them, will serve Me in the land; there I will accept them and there I will seek your contributions and the choicest of your gifts, with all your holy things.'” (Ezekiel 20:40)
And Jesus will reign from Jerusalem (Revelation 21:2-4).
Even though currently not many Jews believe in Jesus, this will all change in the end.
"Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be! But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?" (Romans 11:12-15)
One day, all Israel will look upon Jesus who was pierced and accept Him. When that happens, all the dead will be raised and God's kingdom will begin to reign on earth!
