The prophet Isaiah prophesied about Jesus who was to come. Moved by the Spirit of God, Isaiah foretold about Jesus.
"But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him." (Isaiah 53:5-6)
No one fits this description other than Jesus, because Jesus was pierced by the crucifixion. He was whipped for our well-being. All of us have sinned, but God has caused all our sins to fall on Jesus, because He paid for our sins on our behalf.
Isaiah goes on to say:
"His grave was assigned with wicked men,
Yet He was with a rich man in His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was there any deceit in His mouth." (Isaiah 53:9)
Jesus' body was taken to the tomb of a rich man.
In the New Testament, it says:
"When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away." (Matthew 27:57-60)
Jesus perfectly fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy. Even in His death, He was with a rich man, Joseph of Arimathea, who laid Him in his own tomb.
Jesus suffered more than physical pain, He also suffered anguish of soul beyond what we can understand.
"As a result of the anguish of His soul,
He will see it and be satisfied;
By His knowledge the Righteous One,
My Servant, will justify the many,
As He will bear their iniquities." (Isaiah 53:11)
Jesus suffered more than we can understand. It takes an infinite God (Jesus) to suffer the punishment for all of humanity's sins. Not even angels can do what Jesus did, because angels are finite created beings, but the punishment of sins is eternal. So only an eternal God who is infinite can suffer like Jesus did. Because Jesus is God (the second Person of the Trinity), He was worthy and able to do so.
Finally Isaiah prophesied about Jesus' resurrection and glory:
"Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,
And He will divide the booty with the strong;
Because He poured out Himself to death,
And was numbered with the transgressors;
Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
And interceded for the transgressors." (Isaiah 53:12)
So Jesus resurrected and has a name above all names:
"For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9-11)
Anyone who believes in Jesus and follows Him will be saved.
