The Bible does not say explicitly whether non-Christians will hear Christ’s call or the trumpet during the rapture. However, we know that there will be people who will try to push themselves in.
Here is what Jesus said about the rapture:
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps.
Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’” (Matthew 25:1-6)
We know that the church is Christ’s bride (Ephesians 5:31-32). Those who are ready to meet the Lord are the prudent virgins and those who are not ready are the foolish ones. The foolish virgins will try to get into the wedding feast, but they will be shut out (Matthew 25:12).
Similarly, there is another parable, saying there will be people who will try to get into the wedding feast, even though they are not in proper wedding attire:
“‘Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’ Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests.
But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:9-14)
These passages explain about false Christians who will try to force their way into the rapture or into the kingdom of heaven. In the end, they will not succeed. Even if they hear the trumpet call or Jesus calling, they will be cast out because they don't truly believe.
People are false Christians if they say they believe but are only doing lip-service. They use Jesus’ blood as a license to sin. They say they believe but sin like the devil, taking advantage of God. However, God is not mocked and such people are not true believers. If someone truly believes, he would act like he believes.
So if we truly believe in Jesus, we would have deeds to show that we believe. But if we believe in God without any action to turn away from our sins, then we are false believers and behaving like demons. This is why the Bible says: “Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder” (James 2:18-19).
Demons believe God exists and demons recognized Jesus (Luke 4:41). But their actions are pure evil. So just believing without repenting is no good, and if we act like that, we too are behaving like demons.
The apostle Paul said: “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds” (Acts 26:20).
So again, we need to act like we truly believe and not act like people who merely perform lip service.
In the passage about the wedding guest without proper wedding clothes, the Bible reveals what proper wedding clothes mean:
“‘Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.’ It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (Revelation 19:7-8)
So we need to be ready for Christ’s coming by working with God to overcome sins, learning to be faithful to Him, and acting in accordance with our belief.
If we have any sins, we can confess them to God and ask Him to help us overcome them:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
Jesus tells us more on how to be ready for His coming:
“Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36)
So let us be ready, pray, and look forward to meeting Him!
