I still remember the first time I had these. My Aunt JoAnn and Uncle Joe made them for a potluck graduation party we were at. The flavor combination made such as impact on me that I asked right away where they got recipe. My Aunt's answer..."We just threw them together" and she rattled off the ingredients. Most of which, of course, I forgot. It took us maybe a couple of years between the two of us to sort of figure out what was in these beans, but in the end, this recipe is what I remember.
I like baked beans, I love these hot & sweet baked beans. They have become a family favorite.
My Grammy Lesko used to make this every year so my mom could stuff the Thanksgiving turkey with it. My mom still uses this recipe and wheat based stuffing mix for our traditional turkey dinner.
As more and more of the family has begun eating gluten-free, we really missed enjoying the traditional turkey stuffing. Since I only make this stuffing once a year, it's taken me quite a few years to get even close to what we used to enjoy. Every year I make it a little better than the year before.
