Baked Custard Pie? Yup! Baked custard as opposed to a stove top cooked custard. This recipe is easy but never seems to be baked when I take it hot out of the oven. It sets nicely when it cools however.
Custard pie is one of the pies my mom & dad frequently ask for at Thanksgiving.
I needed a little something for a dinner party and as I was digging through my recipes when I came upon a recipe for mousse and another for grasshopper pie. Being who I am, I found it funny that moose and grasshoppers are both critters and the critters have nothing to do with these desserts. I knew I needed to combine these desserts into one just because of the names.
Of course, I couldn't resist changing mousse to moose. Whether you find my sense of humor funny, or not, you may find this dessert as delicious as I do.
Why have I not made this before? I love lime and this is just an amazing way to serve it.
I've done quite a bit or research concerning limes and Key limes. Based on what I've read and experienced there is no flavor difference between the two. Now you have no excuse to not make this recipe.
This recipe originally came from my "Grammy Wilda" decades ago and it's my dad's favorite squash pie. If we have another squash or pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving he wants to have this one as well.
The recipe is so simple, uses fresh squash or pumpkin and doesn't require evaporated milk like so many other recipes. This version is lightly spiced which allows the flavor of the squash to come through nicely.
