This question tests your ability to compare similarities AND differences between the writers' viewpoints/opinions in both texts. Make sure to read the question, as they will give you a particular topic to focus on!
Make sure that you do this question as a 'side-by-side' comparison. Do not attempt to talk all about text A and then afterwards talk all about text B. You should be linking your ideas about the two texts using comparison words like "similarly" or "however".
You should aim to write about 2-3 comparisons at least. When thinking about a comparison, you're trying to find a theme/topic that both texts discuss. So for example, if the question is "Compare how nurses feel about their jobs in both texts." find things that they both comment on. Do both texts mention their pay? Even if they say different things about their pay, this is still a point for comparison e.g. "In text A nurses express that they aren't payed enough, however in text B nurses state that they earn plenty." This then sets you up to discuss quotes that show this and leads into your language analysis part of the comparison paragraph.
This question also wants you to look at the language that the authors use. After you've looked at what the two authors say about something, have a look at how they get this message across. Do they both use adjectives to get across their message? Does one text use facts whereas the other text uses emotive language? This should be done in a way that is similar to the language analysis question. Don't just say one text has a lot of facts. We need to see examples and your analysis of how they're used!
This question is worth a lot of marks as it tests a lot of different skills. It tests what you've learned from paper 2 question 2 (synthesis), as well as paper 1 question 2 & paper 2 question 3 (language analysis). This makes this an excellent question to revise, since it will help you work on a lot of different areas all at once!
For a guide on how to structure this question, see the planning table in the "Useful tools" section at the bottom of this page.
Key points to consider:
Cover both similarities and differences
Make sure to comment on the language used
Write it as a side by side comparison using comparing words like "similarly" or "however". Don't cover all of text A and then all of text B afterwards
Aim to write 3-4 comparisons
