Ashitaka and the others go through the kodama forest. Meanwhile, the exotic texture of this place is fully being adapted by the music. The Forest Chords play in con sordino violins, the Kodama Theme reveals itself in mandolin and the chromatic marimba line perfectly illustrates the big and ominous trees in the forest. As Ashitaka explains the current situation to Kohroku, the first pitches of the Ashitaka Theme play in violin as a little hint. As we see Ashitaka pushing through the terrain with an unconscious man on his back, we can hear a sort of wondrous rendition of the Ashitaka Theme, but with a different underlying harmony in strings (A#m - C#sus2 - G#6 - G#m6 - A#m(add4) - A#m). As Ashitaka struggles to continue his path, the B phrase of the Ashitaka Theme can be heard in trumpets, horns and violins. But as we see the kodama again, the mood shifts again to a more ominous tone. The Forest Chords as well as the Kodama Theme play, as Ashitaka sees the mother tree. The score settles on an A#5 chord, ending the cue.
