It’s hard to remember things exactly as they happened. The human memory is more flawed than most in the animal kingdom (yes, dolphins have better memories than us), and there’s been countless studies that show how people can remember events in drastically different ways. Memory, or lack thereof, is the basis of all of our successes and downfalls, whether that is as individuals or as a species as a whole.
In a way, this ability is both a blessing and a curse: after all, both nostalgia and trauma could not exist without our handy little hippocampus. In this month’s theme, “Memories”, we’ll be exploring this fundamental part of us, which shapes who we eventually become as the years go by.
Slip a sweater on, because it’s getting cold, and read about the science behind memory, the 101 guide to remembering, and a short story about dreams.
Happy Thanksgiving, and good readings!
