This edition pays tribute to Francophonie week, the celebration of the hundreds of millions of french speakers that exist globally. Although the french language originally comes from, well, France, it is spoken by countries all over the world, from Quebec to Congo. This is a result of France’s colonial history, which has resulted in the mixture of French and the original languages into the hybrid dialects and cultures found in Africa, Canada and more. But Francophonie is not about celebrating imperialism - it is about promoting the peace and cooperation that unites these countries even after a bloodied history.
In this edition, our writers have concentrated on the many aspects of francophone culture, including the intricacies of French as a language, French cuisine and Francophone culture in America. We’ve also included a couple of articles in french from our francophone writers, so you might want to pull up google translate if you’re not multilingual, or if you’re learning, take the opportunity to practice your french.
Bonne lecture!
