Welcome back to the newsletter! In recognition of the existential dread that comes with a new school year, this edition’s theme is ‘Cycles’.
Life itself, and many of its aspects, are cycles. We see it in nature: the sun rises and sets every day, water circles between the earth and the sky, and in ecosystems, dead organic material allows new life to flourish. With regards to our society, we also like to organise ourselves in cycles - think of the calendar, the hours of the day or even our holidays. In some ways, it is comforting to see things repeat themselves, though keep in mind that even the strictest of schedules is vulnerable to change. And it is precisely when we stray from our comfort zones that life becomes interesting.
This edition, our writers have come up with a variety of creative ways to illustrate our theme, including a metaphorical story about the horrors of periods, an analysis on historical patterns, and the evolution of logos throughout the centuries. We are also introducing an exciting new column, “Rabbit holes worth falling into” by FIS student Nina Martin, which will offer alternative media content that merits exploration.
Without further ado, enjoy the read!
