On the first day we made presentations with the theme “My school my hometown” and we had a tour around the school. Afterwards we had a recycled clothing workshop. When we got home, we had dinner very early, which was different for us, and after a while we went bowling.
I woke up and had breakfast with my host family, then I walked to school with Hertta, my host, and met the others there. We had the welcome ceremony. They had cooked some food for us and we all presented the “My school my hometown”. After it we had lunch in the school canteen, we ate potatoes with meat and then they gave us a school tour. In the afternoon we had a Swedish class with our host students and a recycling workshop where we made a bracelet, painted and did macrame. At three, we went home and rested a bit, I took a shower and then I had dinner with my host family. We ate mashed potatoes with meat. At six we all met again to play bowling, it was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot. After it I went home again and went to sleep. It was a great day; I was still a little tired from the trip but it was good and I really liked it.
On my first day, we delivered our presentation “My school my town” and we got a lot of information about Spain and Finland. We had a school tour by host students and a recycling clothes workshop. In the workshop, we learnt macrame. When we went home we had dinner, and after that we went bowling and it was very funny.
On the first day, we were welcomed at the Minna Canthin Koulu, we presented our work “my school, my hometown”, then we had lunch in the school canteen and had a tour around the school. After that, we attended a Swedish lesson and finally we had a workshop on recycling.
The thing I liked most about the day was probably the reception at school, where we had food and presented and watched the assignments.
At home that day, I talked to the family to get to know each other better and played video games with Maisa's brothers. We also went bowling, I really enjoyed it, probably the second thing I liked most about the day.
On the 2nd day, we went to another school and did math activities. Afterwards we had lunch and had an activity with a very funny and entertaining teacher.
After that, we made Karelian pie, a typical food. Before we went home, we went to the mall and bought several things. We had dinner there and it was a very good day.
On Tuesday we went to a different school, Niirala Kuolo, we all met there at nine in the morning and had mathematic games to play with other Finish students all morning. We then walked back to the other school, Minna Canthin Kuolo, and had lunch there with our host students. In the afternoon, we had classes with them and then did some group activities with the Portuguese and Spanish students and the host students. After we had a Karelian pie workshop, where I cooked Karelian pie with Adriana. They were really good. When school ended me and the other Portuguese students went shopping with Hertta, Maisa and Alisa. I bought a hoodie and a book and then we ate in burger king. After that, Hertta’s dad came to pick us two up and we passed by a supermarket on our way home to buy traditional candies and took me to a frozen lake. When we got home we had dinner and then went to sleep.
On my second day, we went to mathematics class. After that we did a group activity by Teemu. We made Karelian pie with the Finish students and I must say it’s a very good food. In the evening, we went shopping and we had dinner at Burger King in the shopping centre and it was a lot of fun and we bought a lot of things.
On day 2 we met at Niirala school, had a math lesson, after the lesson we went for lunch at Minna Canthin school. Afterwards, we attended an English lesson and did some fun activities such as the moose game. Finally, we had a food workshop, where we made typical Finnish food (Karelian Pies).
The thing I liked most about the day was the food workshop, where we cooked and ate the famous Karelian Pies.
The rest of the afternoon we all went to the city mall where we ended up having dinner.
We started the day by going to Puijo, which is a place where winter sports are done. We went up to the top of Puijo Tower, from where we had an amazing view over the city and the lakes around. After that, we were in a snow tube. We had lunch in a nearby restaurant. The food was very good.
In the afternoon, we went to the municipal swimming hall, which is the biggest of the country. There we had a hydro gymnastics lesson and we swam a lot. We also jumped several times into the 5-meter pool.
Afterwards, we went home and skied in the hills around the house. We fell several times and it was really fun.
Our teachers were with us for dinner. They had been ice fishing, they caught a big fish and we ate it.
On Wednesday I woke up and had breakfast and after me and Hertta went to meet the others to go to the Puijo Tower. We all walked up the stairs to the tower and the view was amazing. From the top of the tower, it was possible to see the whole city, a really nice view. We then went to the snow tube and had lunch in a restaurant there. After it we took the ski lift down the hill and walked to the swimming hall. There we went to the pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Then I walked home with Hertta and later she took me on a car trip with her sister to see the city and when we came back we had dinner.
The third day was my favourite day! We met at Puijo Stadion. Then we went to a snow tube and it was so funny. After that, we went to the swimming hall and it was my favourite thing of the day because I love swimming. At home, we had dinner and after dinner we went skiing with my host family. We fell a lot of times but it was very funny!
Our day 3 was basically a day off from school: we went to visit the Puijo Tower, slid down the “Snow Tube”, had lunch at a restaurant near the Puijo Tower. After lunch, we went to the swimming pool center. There we went to the normal pool, jumped from various heights (3, 5, 7 and 10 meters), we also went to the cold-water pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna.
I also went skating and playing ice hockey with Alvar in the evening.
The things I liked most about the day were the snow tube and the pool/sauna.
We had a robotics class and at the end, we went to the secondary school, which was huge and very beautiful. After that we went to a very interesting museum. At the end of the day we went home and received visits from other Portuguese colleagues. We skied and made gingerbread cookies and typical sweets. It was a very good night.
On Thursday I did my morning routine and walked to Niirala School with Hertta. There we had a Lego robotics class and then walked to the Lumit school to have lunch. They also gave us a Lumit school tour, it’s a really nice school. After it they took us to the Kuopio museum where we got to know a lot more about Kuopio’s and Finland’s history. Then me and Hertta went for a walk in the city, went to a really cute café and later I went with her to her music class. We went home and had some rest, had dinner and went skiing in the frozen lake near the house. It was really fun and we stayed there for an hour and half. We then went back home, had a snack and went to sleep.
On the fourth day, we had a robotics class. Then, we went to Lumit school and we had a tour there. Later, we went to Kuopio Museum and then we went home to have dinner. After dinner, Maisa and Guilherme came to our house and we skied and made cinnamon rolls and gingerbread cookies.
On day 4, we went to Niirala school, where we had a “Lego Robotic Class”. Next, we went to Lumit school, where we ended up having lunch and a
tour of the school, After the tour, we went to visit the “Kuopio museum”, where we learnt a lot of things about Kuopio, its history and the natural environment.
In the afternoon, Maisa and I went to Alisa's house. There, we went skiing and ended up making some food: ginger cookies and cinnamon rolls.
The thing I enjoyed most about the day was skiing with Alisa, Lara, Adriana and Maisa.
On the last day, we went to see a store with recycled and donated things. It was very big.
After that we had lunch and received our certificates. Then we went home and had dinner. At night, we went skating with the Spanish and Portuguese too. I fell but it was a lot of fun. We were in a snowmobile and it was very cold. It was an amazing experience.
On Friday, Guilherme came to my host house by the morning, left his baggage and me, him, Hertta and Maisa walked to school. There we met the others and we all walked to the recycling store. After it, we came back to school and had lunch in the school canteen. In the afternoon, we had the Farewell Ceremony, where we ate a lot of sweets, saw pictures of our week there, talked and received our certificates. After it, I, Guilherme and Hertta came back home, where we had snacks and then went ice swimming. It was really cold but a good experience. We got there, changed into our swimming suits, went into the water, then got into the sauna, then water again, then sauna and then I still went into the water one more time. After, we went back home, I showered and ate a snack before going to ice skating with the other students. At eight pm we came back home, made pizza, packed our stuff and went to sleep.
On the fifth day, we went to a recycling store and later we had a Farewell Ceremony and they handed us certificates. In the evening, we had dinner at home and then we went ice skating.
On the last day, we went to a recycling store “Elävä Kauppa”, where we got to know the store better and how they recycle and upcycle things. We learnt that the company is very sustainable and socially engaged.
Afterwards, we went back to Minna Canthin Koulu and had lunch. Next, we had our “Farewell Ceremony”, where we ate some snacks, watched videos and photos from the week and received our diplomas.
At home Ines and I made pizza, went to an ice pool and sauna. In the sauna, we had a complete Finnish experience, by dipping into the waters of a frozen lake.
The things I enjoyed most on the last day were trying out the Ice pool and making pizza with Inês and Hertta.
