The Back Sound "k"

Practice saying the “k” sound with Ms. Jennifer, a Speech-Language Pathologist at the ECLC. “k” kind of sounds like radio static. When your child can say “k” by itself, encourage them to try saying the following words slowly: “key,” “cup,” “cow,” and “can.” Many times it is easier for students to say “k” at the end of the word when they are practicing this sound. Try saying “back,” “bike,” “pack,” and “hook.” This is a really tricky sound and many children are not successful when they first try saying “k” in words. However, all students are able to look in the mirror and say “ah,” which is a small step toward saying “k.” It’s okay to praise your child for practicing with you, even if the sound was too tricky for them to say the first time.
