The Church of the GOC of Greece

The Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece consists of those Orthodox Christians, clergy and laity, of the Autocephalous Church of Greece and the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Greece who do not accept the uncanonical and arbitrary calendar innovation of 1924, and they began the struggle against Ecumenism, that is the process of the progressive fusion of Orthodoxy with the various “confessions” and religions.

Since 1925 this community of Orthodox Christians adopted the name “Genuine Orthodox Christians” in order to distinguish them from those who had accepted the innovation, i.e. the “new calendarists” clergy and laity of the State Church of Greece. In 1935, with the return to genuine Orthodoxy of three Metropolitans and the ordinations of the first bishops, the Holy Synod was created and the Church of the GOC of Greece was administratively organized.

The Church of the GOC of Greece acts and exists independently, organized into Metropolises, Parishes and Monasteries in almost the entire Greek State and outside of Greece. It is served by its own clergy who are all unsalaried and are supported by the faithful whom they serve. Occasionally they suffer persecutions from the Greek political and ecclesiastical authorities.
