Three new innovative learning activities for young children to build language and literacy creativity follow:
**0-2 Years: "Sound Exploration Basket"**
- Fill a basket with different objects that make sounds (e.g., bells, rattles, crinkly paper, wooden blocks). Invite children to investigate the objects while they listen for sounds. This activity encourages listening ability, language, and sound-object correspondence knowledge.
**2-3 Years: "Story Stones
- Offer smooth stones with drawings or pictures on them (e.g., animals, trees, cars). Have children pick a few stones and make up a short story from the drawings. This activity encourages vocabulary, imagination, and storytelling skills as well as gives children an opportunity to build their own stories(Catts et al., 2013).
**3-5 Years: "Story Garden
- Create a "story garden" where kids plant (draw) pictures of characters, settings, and objects on big pieces of paper. They can then use these to invent their own stories by mixing the elements in new ways. This fosters language and literacy creativity as kids make up plotlines and play creatively.
