Computer

This section is about using a personal computer to record audio and video (optionally) as well as dictating from a pdf/ppt. The video should appear at one small part of the screen and video recording requires a webcam. We provide simple guides for using two useful applications for this purpose:

  • OBS, which is an open-source software available for Windows, Linux and Mac. If you want to use OBS, then you may also need a video editing software. A simple guide for basic usage of OBS is outlined in this section. For editing video, please look at this section.

  • Active presenter, which is a closed-source software available in Windows and Mac. The advantange of Active presenter is that the software has basic video editing capability built in. A simple guide for basic usage of Active presenter is outlined in this section.

If you want to use powerpoint's built in feature of recording audio, then please refer to this section.

Suggestive practices:

    • While presenting, use the cursor/mouse to focus on the exact text referred to (otherwise, use paragraph, figure number etc.)

    • Avoid clutter on the screen while recording it. The screen should only show content relevant to the video.

    • For instructional videos, a frame rate of less than 10 fps is sufficient. Most of the screen recorders will give you the option to specify frame rate.
