Edit USING SHOTCUT

Shotcut is a free, open source, video editor available for Windows, Linux and MacOS. You can follow the steps below to edit your video in Shotcut.

Step 1: When we open Shotcut, a prompt appears:

  • Select a new project.

  • Create a new project.

Choose the destination folder name of the project and the video mode.

If we select the automatic audio mode then, it will select the resolution as per the first video clip that is added.

Step 2: Initial Prompt → Playlist and Timeline opens up → Drag Items and drop on Playlist → View by Preview Button.

OR

We can also add our files using the open file button on the top left corner as shown in the image attached.

How to add video/audio to the timeline?

Add video/audio track button → Open file → Place on timeline.

Step 3: Trimming clips:

Left arrow at the start → Right arrow at the end

Now, we have to drag the video to the timeline and our video will be trimmed.

OR

Trimming with split:

Mark line till desired point → Split (press S or Split at playhead) → Delete undesired part.

Merging videos:

Place them one after the other as shown in the picture below.

The videos have been moved to the timeline and have been merged

Step 4: There are various options to edit a video/audio which can be accessed under the filters menu. Some of these are:

1. Controlling brightness and contrast

2. Adding transitions

3. Changing volume

4. Color grading

5. Rotate and scale and various other effects can also be added.



Then you will see a bunch of editing options and you can use them to your video/audio by first selecting that you want to edit a video or an audio

Then click the ‘+’ symbol as shown in the image.

Select the audio/video in the timeline in which you want to add/change effects and select the option Filter

By this we can add various filters by clicking the '+' icon and then choosing the filter of your choice from the list of options.

Step 5 : To add text in a video

To add text in a video (or in a part of video) we can use a function available in option “Filters” named as ‘Text’ described in Step 4.

After clicking ‘Filters’ > ‘+’ > ‘Video’. We can select the option Text as shown in the figure.

After selecting the option text we can see the options to add text and to edit it.

By this we can add text to the whole video but if we want to add text to a small part of video then we can split that part of video (as described in step 3) and can then add to specifically that part only.
