Feedback from Students

A video lecture only allows communication from our side. For effective learning it is important that we supplement these e-resources with polls, quizzes, assignments and online examination.

Unfortunately, the jury is still out on how to properly conduct examinations online. On the other hand, there are multiple websites/tools which allow students to interact with us. This page contains information about some of the tools for interaction and few methods to perform online evaluation.

  • Interaction within an e-Lecture: An e-Lecture can be made way more effective by giving students a chance to interact with us.

    • You can record a question in the video itself, give some pause and cover the expected answers afterwards.

    • Invideo questions: mooKIT allows you to insert questions after you have recorded the video, the video will pause till the student answers the question.

    • Otherwise, you can use H5P to have a video which will pause until the student answers the question.

    • Polls: Mentimeter is a very helpful tool to create polls and questions (video).

    • Online quizzes: Kahoot allows you to create MCQ/fill in the blanks quizzes. These quizzes can be run synchronously (and are a lot of fun for students) or can be given asynchronously to students.

  • Online assessment:

    • There are some alternatives to having a traditional examination. If the class strength is low, an online Viva voce for every student can be tried. Another good strategy is to have group assignments, it takes advantage of peer-learning and seems to restrict communication between groups.

    • A tool for creating pop quizzes can be Google forms.

    • This webpage discusses techniques and tools for online assessment.

    • This webpage gives some tips to reduce cheating in online assessment.

Here is a list of evaluation options possible using mooKIT.
