Different modes of delivery
This is one of the most important decisions to make, once you decide to create a video of your own. There are several different modes of recording a lecture as shown above. If you have already decided, please click on the link above to proceed. If not, let us look at their pros and cons (options given in our preferred order). All of these modes require a microphone, external is better, to record the audio.
Recording screen: There are several softwares available to record all the action on your screen (of your laptop/tablet) and simultaneously the audio from your microphone. You can write on your screen, annotate a ppt/pdf, or show a simulation; everything is captured. You definitely need a screen recording software, also a tablet if you need to write on the screen.
PowerPoint narration: This is another good choice to make a smaller size video/file resembling your classroom lecture. Powerpoint itself provides this functionality. In the end, you get a presentation with audio embedded in it. It can be played as a video or a presentation. A very good option if you have lots of images and animations in the presentation.
Audio recording: This option is preferable if you want to record a plain lecture over a pdf and want to keep the size small. The audio file can be shared separately or with the presentation. There are options in mooKIT to synchronize the audio with different pages of the presentation. You need an audio recording software for this option.
Recording with phone camera : This is a basic option, making a video using your mobile's camera or any other camera. As happens mostly in life, this is the easiest but least preferred option, mostly suitable for recording an experiment or a demonstration. If this option suits you, we mention some tips and tools in the "Recording with phone camera" section.
You need not restrict yourself to just one mode of recording and switch modes depending on the content. For example, screen record a tablet for presenting proofs, make a video through mobile for a live demonstration and ppt with voiceover for a presentation filled with animations.
