Automaton who gained sentience & sapience through unknown means

 Sterling's maker passed away shortly before he "came to life", and it is suspected that she had some magic ability that she was unaware of and this this somehow found it's way to Sterling

Sterling has no memory of his maker but knows he was created to help Mina with her duties, mainly in caring for the children of the town

Enjoys helping with the children, especially because they're easily impressed by him being artificial

Doesn't need to eat or sleep but requires occasional maintenance and upkeep (he does enjoy sleeping sometimes though)

Capable of very weak magic; can control/move around small objects or small quantities of metal, mostly just uses it for convenience and to entertain the kids
