Fixation w/ Fall and Painting Explained:
His attachment to the season has much deeper roots than many would guess. There is still sadness is his voice when he's as invested in fall and painting as he is. As a young viscet, Cinder was treated poorly due to his potentially dangerous tail and unusual horns. He had very low self-esteem and didn't think very highly of himself. His first love changed a lot of things for him- she gave him all of the love in the world and showered him in praise and affection. Slowly but surely, he came out of his shell. Cinder was loving his life and was well aware that he had his girlfriend to thank for it. After years of being together, they finally decided to marry and move away together. The love he had for her was unreal. Cinder vowed that as long as he had breath in his body, he would do everything in his power to protect that absolute angel that was his wife. He would lie, steal, fight, cheat, hurt, and lie his life down for the viscet that had given him everything that ever mattered to him. She loved fall more than anything, and Cinder always did his best to decorate their home with painted scenes to please her and the family they were planning to build- a family that unfortunately never came to be. Just months before they planned to have their first child, Cinder's beloved wife fell ill. They went to healer after healer only to be told the same thing each time. There was nothing that could be done, the ailment could not be identified and treatment after treatment failed in improving her long-term health. Cinder was crushed. His dear was losing her fight; everything he had ever loved, looked forward to, and planned for was falling apart in front of him, and he was painfully helpless to do anything. Even in the end, Cinder managed to make out through his sobbing that her last words to him were words of love. With her head cradled in his lap, she begged him to keep creating beautiful things, and that the world was his to see.
He was shattered when she passed, but he promised her grave that he would fill their home with the most beautiful things he could create in her image- and he would be damned if he didn't. Her favorite season was always fall, and it's vibrant colored offered endless inspiration for his work, so he decided that each fall he would pour his heart into making pieces that would make her proud. There is not one thing in the world that Cinder cares about more than feeling like she would be happy, and he views each painting as a small memorial to her memory. Simply, Cinder's obsession with these two things stems from his promise to his wife- for him to keep creating beautiful things.
