Jody Green
Jody Green was our presenter for this CUE workshop. The topic was apps for mobile learning. These included possible apps for Android, iOS, and Chromebook extensions.
She first had us introduce ourselves on Flipgrid and then got right to the presentation. The presentation consisted of exploring the app store (of our choice), connecting the idea to the standards, creating something and having us make a plan for our class.
Jody did a great job of balancing her talking with having us do some task. (Always good after a long day at school). I got a chance to check out Adobe Spark Post, which is something I have heard many teachers using.
Next she shared with us some of the the info on TPACK and SAMR. What I liked was that she compared the SAMR to a swimming pool and not a ladder- we can move to different parts of SAMR at any given moment/lesson.
As a teacher who rarely get s time to "play" with a tool, especially in a training, it is nice to get to take some time...Well, in this case were told to create something. :-) I chose to make a poster using the Adobe Spark Post app. (between my lagging computer and crashing, I just waited about 30 minutes to be able to download the Questions poster)
The controls on Spark Post were pretty comprehensive. I can see why some folks would like this. For me, I could see myself having students use it to create an infographic or poster to demonstrate their learning. I would not want to use it much myself, not because it is a bad tool, but there are many cool features that would suck my time even more. I really liked how I could move and resize text and images very easily.
I would have liked more time to check out some of the tools, but that will have to wait for another time. The post should be beneficial to the outside reader.
There is always value in these workshops. The value was getting to check out the tools with purpose. How can we look at an app that is not just fun, but one that helps build on the 4Cs. I will also be checking out some of the other apps Jody and other teachers shared that will help foster creation and creativity in our students.
I am certain I will be sharing many of the apps and the thinking either with my colleagues or my online folks. Sadly, at my site, there are not many who are always available to share my passion for Edtech and implementing some of these tools and strategies or trying to innovate with them. But I will try. I always do.
Looking at another student's, in CUEDI, project, I want to check out Adobe Spark Page also. Too many cool tools, so little time. :-)
