The best way to explain the syllabus is to state that it usually deals with parts of the class that will not change often, such as learning objectives. A syllabus is essential for a student to know what will be expected, including grades, and how they will be graded. In a traditional face to face class, these are the parts mentioned in class because students will be using it to succeed. When creating the syllabus for the class there were many things I decided belonged in the syllabus. I put in the assignments, how many points each assignment would carry, plus what I required. I also made sure I put in the course description, the learning objectives, textbook, rationale for creating the class, technology skills needed, and each lesson with a description of what we will study and the activities for that lesson. I tried to be detailed so students will understand what I expect. For the syllabus, I added a test so I can see whether the students read it.
