Bayern Champions

The design (BTS)

Background: I really wanted to create something around Bayern's success this season. I knew when I saw this photo it would make a great design — the energy just radiates out of the players and off the page.

Contrast: The main contrast is between the white background and the pops of red and black. Also, the players themselves are contrasted with black and white skin tone and red uniforms.

Alignment: Most of the elements are aligned on the left of the design, and centralized, giving the right side of the design some room to breathe.

Proximity: There are some elements scattered around the image, but the bulk of it is centered directly in the middle to draw your attention to the players.

Repetition: A big part of the repetition I chose for this design is copying the diamond pattern from their uniform and badge and creating a background pattern from that using the pen tool.

Color Scheme: Red, black, white and grey.

Font Choice: I wanted a modern font to use because this is such a modern design, so I went with two of my favorites, Bungee and James Stroker.

Photoshop: The main tools I used are listed below.

  • Texture layering

  • Channels selection and move tool

  • Type tool

  • Subject select, quick selection and layer masking

  • Levels adjustment layer

  • Adobe Camera Raw

  • Brightness and contrast adjustment layer

  • Pen tool

  • Rectangular marquee tool

  • Stroke and effects

  • Custom paint brush tool

  • Duct tape sticker
