Hi, Everyone,
Thanks, Everyone, for a great meeting yesterday. Lots of participation, lots of great quilts, and lots of ideas and inspiration!
We began with the Show and Tell of our October Challenge - Any Holiday - in a Modern Way. Most of our annual holidays were represented - all the patriotic ones with Joy's table runner and mat, Christmas with Gaye's wonky trees and Trudy's Poinsettias, Veteran's Day and Fourth of July with Michelle's Poppies and Fireworks quilts, and Halloween with Annemarie's Candy Corn table runner and Sue's bright and scrappy lap quilt. Great Job!
We then moved into other things we completed or are working on: Joy shared her blackwork embroidery of 1930's Halloween postcards. Gaye talked about her three Christmas scavenger hunt mystery quilts and her Merry Memories. Anne was working on her red Phrygian cap reminiscent of the French Revolution, while Emily talked about her entree into English Paper Piecing where she designed her own fabric blocks using small wooden blocks. Very Creative! Ruth presented her black and white and swamp green summer challenge (from another quilt guild) wall hanging - very striking! And, Becky completed with the round with her book quilt - a pencil people rendition of the characters in The Wizard of Oz. So cool!
Two books that Joy shared with us - Stitched by Eli McCann (a very entertaining story about a quilt guild in Utah) and Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. Add these to your short reading list.
Finally, we moved into planning our next challenge - due January 23, 2027 - Retro Goes Modern. Several years ago, the guild received a large bin of fat quarters from a long-time member - Eleanor Allen - who passed away. Eleanor was all about reproduction quilts, especially Thimbleberries fabrics and patterns. So, our challenge was/is to choose a few fat quarters and make something modern for the January meeting. Additional fabrics may be added but the challenge is to transform traditional fabrics into something modern. For those who did not attend and would like to be challenged in the Retro Goes Modern challenge, please see Sue Therriault at the November and/or January meetings OR dig through your stash and use what you have.
Our next Mod Squad meeting will be held on Saturday, January 23, at noon at the Community Room at the Charlton Library. Hope to see you then with challenge in hand.
Thanks,
Sue
