Christmas came early to the Mod Squad! And, what fun we had as we exchanged our Scrap Soup challenge quilted items. Each gift was wrapped and handed to the recipient with a backstory on the maker's approach to the challenge, the opportunity to work with fabrics that she may not have chosen, and the desire to try something new and different. The variety of items spanned fabric boxes and notions, wall hangings and small quilts, placemats, and several bags in all shapes and sizes. Susan B put together a unique wall hanging from a pattern by Denyse Schmidt entitled The Proverbial Quilt. Here is the link: https://dsquilts.com/products/proverbial-quilt.
The Proverbial Quilt quilt pattern The Proverbial Quilt is inspired by early "talking" quilts, and the artwork of Barbara Kruger. Denyse's version – originally part of her Couture Collection of custom quilts in the mid-1990's – is an amalgamation of proverbs and fortunes from cookies. This pattern includes templates for the entire alphabet so you can customize, personalize, memorialize, or editorialize. dsquilts.com
Everyone agreed that this challenge was among our most favorite. And, we did have a few non-challenge items, very Halloweeny, thanks to Mary R. Finally, as we are all quilters who have lots of ideas about quilts and quilting, we were able to offer suggestions to Kathy M on her YMCA gift / baby quilt. Well-timed.
And, now we are off to our next challenge. Everyone was invited to submit ideas on index cards, which were placed in a small paper bag. Three ideas were pulled and we agreed to Map It / Trips & Travels as our January challenge. No other guidelines apply. The bag o' ideas and lots of blank index chards will be brought to each meeting going forward.
Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, January 25th. I will email the exact time and place once it has been confirmed.
