August 2022 - “Orange” Challenge
Hi, Everyone!
Well, it was hot but the breeze was very pleasant as we sat in the Sturbridge Common gazebo and shared our modern quilts. Despite the yoga enthusiasts nearby, we carried on and talked about our ORANGE challenge. Many enjoyed it, some were challenged by the color and were able to reduce their stash of orange, and everyone enjoyed the result – happy that we had decided to make it a mini. Many thanks to Susan B, Joy, Becky B, Judy, Anita, Susan D, Ros, Susan P, Annemarie, Mary, and Sue T for showing and sharing.
And, speaking of sharing, thanks to Becky Bachand, we had a mini- show and tell of some of her quilted items that she is giving to Cornerstone Collectibles to sell at the Leicester Harvest Fair on Saturday, September 17th. We had a great discussion about items that would sell at the fair – table runners/toppers, placemats, mug rugs, coasters, cozy bowls, gift bags, gift card holders, zippered pouches, pincushions, If you are interested in donating items to be sold or in volunteering a couple of hours at the guild’s booth, please contact Annemarie. She’d love to hear from you.
And, now it’s on to the next challenge! After much discussion and brainstorming, we decided to keep it simple and go back to basics. As Ros defined it, three characteristics of a modern quilt are negative space, asymmetry, and solid colors. And, so too will our October challenge be! Any size is fine, any technique or techniques will work, it just needs to be scream Modern.
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, October 22, at 12:30 pm at the Community Room at the Charlton Library. The CQG board meeting will be held that morning beginning at 10 am and you are welcome to attend as well. I will send out a reminder email in mid-October.
Thanks, Everyone, for coming!
Enjoy the rest of the summer and stay cooool!
Sue T
