July 2023 Meeting Notes
Hi, Everyone,
Another great Mod Squad meeting yesterday in the comfort and cool of the Joshua Hyde Library in Sturbridge....and we were home before the rain storm hit. YAY!
We began with a Big Show and Share of our Challenge quilts - a non-traditional shape in a modern way. Many Thanks to Monique, Susan B, Joy, Judy, Sue T, Trudy, Mary, Michelle, Becky, and Ros for meeting the challenge and to some for going above and beyond. Granted, some of us have been able to use one quilt for more than one challenge, but that just means that we are able to make more other quilts.
And, speaking of other quilts, we were then treated to a wonderful array of Jen Kingwell inspired blocks with lots of prints and curves (Thanks, Susan B), Judy's Christmas in July mini-charm gift pillow/wallhanging, Susan B's tessellation, Michelle's black and white and red wonky log cabin, and Becky's giraffes and scrappy sampler.
And, as I look back on all the quilts, I remember lots of prints. I guess that everyone is gearing up for our next challenge - Using Prints in a Modern Way - due in October - October 28th to be exact at 10 am at the Community Room at the Charlton Library. At that meeting, we will be doing our 'Snip, Rip & Drop' challenge, so bring a half-yard of a batik and a pair of scissors and join the fun.
If you are looking for some modern quilting inspiration or even just eye candy, check out the Zen Chic blog link below. Brigitte Heitland has lots of great ideas for working with color and scraps in a modern way. We are looking for a challenge for our April meeting. Let us know if something strikes your fancy.
Hope you have a wonderful August - stay cool and dry - and sew to your heart's content.
Thanks,
Sue T
