Hi, Everyone,
What a great meeting we had on Saturday! Kudos to Annemarie and her brother Scott for the welcoming coffee and yummy popovers!
We began our show and share of our book challenge with Susan Burns' picture of a someday quilt of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, followed by Joy's colorful interpretation of the same book. Annemarie then shared her table runner reminiscent of Moby Dick followed by one of Trudy's favorite books, Ishmael by David Quinn - two very different tales with the only link being 'Ishmael.' Sue T presented her very small bookcase wall hanging and her in-process EPP of Pemberley, Mr. Darcy's estate in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Anne C used the Book Nerd pattern to showcase four blocks of open book covers with very interesting fabrics. Last, but not least, was Mary's outstanding book cover display of classics done with stunning machine embroidery. All in all, it was a very impressive show.
Next on the agenda was a show and share of what people are working on or have recently made. Joy used Zen Chic fabrics to make 48 out of 100 modern quilt blocks from the book by Tula Pink. She then continued to use leftovers to make a small pouch and table runner. Trudy, who loves to challenge herself with learning something new, presented her paper-pieced star (the no-tears method) mounted on a frame, thanks to her husband's carpentry skills. She then shared her collection of cards made out of fabric. Fun and easy to make, Trudy explained the process and credited Quilter Beret Nelson of www.onthetrailcreations.com with the idea and tips and techniques to make them. Mary then wow' ed us all with her red and white, machine embroidered Christmas quilt, a gift for a friend, and her honey bun strip quilt made of 1-1/2" and larger strips - very cool. We finished our show and share with Anne C walking us through some Leicester Fair donations and Susan B showing her Temecula Quilt Co quilt to be displayed at the Fair in September.
And, then it was down to the business of our next challenge. We quickly decided that it would be Any Holiday in a Modern Way - no other guidelines! And, we agreed that we would meet on Saturday, October 24th, at noon (after the morning board meeting) at the Community Room at the Charlton Library. PS - We are confirmed for that date and time. A reminder will be sent about a week before.
