Challenges - optional
2026- 2027
2026- 2027
Each year we sponsor several guild-wide challenges - some are free, some are low cost. These are available for sign-up at the opening meeting in September, as well as during subsequent meetings. Each one has a "reveal" date - a guild meeting where those who have participated have the opportunity to show what they have created in response to the challenge. These are intended to be a fun way to stretch your skills and/or explore new ones - if you would like. No pressure, no judges, no prizes - just sharing and fun!! Feel free to pick and choose - or just come to meetings to see what others have created in response to the challenge.
Challenges for 2026 - 2027:
More details, tips, and links will be added as they become available. It's good to get involved in guild challenges because you have a due date. It encourages us to get our homework done. Getting involved in a new technique can encourage us to try something new. Again, having a due date for that project can encourage us to address that project and get it done by that due date.
September 2026 - Just get it done!
Readdress a project that has been tucked away on the back burner and get it done.
February 2027 - Circle project
The quilt must contain a circle either in the piecing or in the quilting. No size limit.
The circle can be curved piecing, applique, reverse applique, or circles in the quilting
Here are a couple of examples - click here
May 2027 - use a new tool, ruler, or gadget
Use a ruler or tool that was purchased some time ago intended for a specific quilt . No size limit.
There is no need to make an additional purchase for this, as many of us have made purchases in the past intending to make a project. This is your opportunity to dust off that tool or gadget that's been sitting around and actually put it to use!
June 2027 - Gradations
Gradations in quilting are the gradual, step-by-step transition of color (hue) or value (lightness to darkness) across a quilt design, often creating a smooth, flowing, or ombre effect. This technique enhances visual depth and movement, moving from light to dark or shifting between colors, and can be achieved through specialized fabrics or curated fabric selections.
Bargellos are a good use of gradations.
