Over the past term and the summer break we have updated a number of documents:
We have reviewed G79, the main auditing document, and updated the checklists found in G79A. We have split this into two, to become a G79A and a G79C. The C checklist is to record staff training, as this was often lost in the previous version. We have also developed an alternative recording method for G79A which gives greater space for recording the findings from audit investigations.
GL480 Food Guide GL480 Food Guide
GL481 Metals Guide GL481 Metals Guide
GL482 Plastics Guide GL482 Plastics Guide
GL483 Textiles guide GL483 Textiles Guide
GL484 Timbers Guide GL484 Timbers Guide
Each of these has a similar format, designed for use by teachers or technicians as a quick check on what sort of things should be considered when working with these materials.
For example, each has a section on Health and Safety that is drawn from the MRATs, a description of the main types of material or ingredient found in school, the common processes carried out and storage and waste management.
We updated the waste disposal contractors list: PS005 - Waste disposal contractors
We undertook some minor updates to the Health and Safety Maintenance of D&T Workshop Equipment (G254 - Health and Safety Maintenance of D&T Workshop Equipment), which led to updates to the machine maintenance log (G254A Machine Maintenance Log). Updates include hyperlinking the contents page at the front, so that it is easier to navigate to each piece of equipment. We are looking into how we can make this into an interactive online resource, and will hope to be trialing something before the Christmas holidays.
We published a new guide on the control of laser cutter fumes in schools (GL477 Laser cutter fumes). This summarises the detail from the laser cutter guide and the MRATs, as well as including the general guidance from LEV guides.
There is also a new guide on disassembly tasks in D&T, as we came across some of these activities in a recent audit, and the teacher asked if we had anything that they could refer to in their departmental procedures (GL475 Disassembly tasks in D&T).
