ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND MILESTONES
Ormoc City prioritizes the proper disposal of infectious waste in healthcare facilities, and its efforts were boosted through a waste treatment machine donation from the DOH under the ADB HEAL project. The completion of the waste treatment facility project on April 28, 2023, marked a significant milestone. UNOPS Philippines conducted a demonstration to ensure the machine's functionality. Ormoc City was selected as one of five grant recipients. The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and the Deed of Donation occurred on May 9, 2023. The waste treatment facility's operational permit is in process, awaiting the official turnover from the DOH to LGU Ormoc. Drafting an ordinance for facility operation is underway and expected to be finalized in the upcoming year.
SEPTAGE FACILITY
The Ormoc City septage treatment facility, operating with a semi-mechanized system and equipped to treat 30 cubic meters of septage sludge daily using two 3-cubic meter capacity siphon trucks, is a vital initiative aimed at preventing pollution, particularly of groundwater sources and natural bodies of water.
As of the latest update, the Environmental and Natural Resources Office's Eco Waste Center management team has diligently submitted the operational permit application to the Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) DOH Region 8, underscoring the commitment to compliance and environmental responsibility.
A significant development in the program is the approval of an ordinance on October 31, 2023. This ordinance imposes charges for the lease of septage collection vehicles to residential buildings and government institutions. This is a crucial step towards establishing sustainable funding for the continued operation and maintenance of the septage treatment facility
