ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND MILESTONES
The Health Education and Advocacy Program in Ormoc City has made significant strides in promoting health awareness, education, and advocacy over the past year.
Health Workshops and Seminars:
Workshops were conducted throughout the year to address various social determinants of health concerns such as nutrition, reproductive health, infectious diseases, and mental health. These events reached a diverse audience, including schools, community centers, and workplaces.
Outreach Campaigns:
Collaborative efforts with local media, local stakeholders and private organizations led to successful outreach campaigns. Free health check-ups, vaccination drives, and distribution of informational materials were conducted in various neighbourhoods, ensuring maximum community participation.
Advocacy Initiatives:
The program actively engaged with local policymakers and community leaders to advocate for policies supporting health and well-being. Successes include the implementation of health-friendly policies, improved sanitation facilities, and increased funding for healthcare services.
Community Partnerships:
Strategic partnerships were formed with local schools, businesses, and civic organizations to amplify the program's reach. These collaborations resulted in joint events, resource-sharing, and a broader impact on the community.

On December 14, 2023, Ormoc City launched the "Ligtas Christmas Campaign" at the enchanting balcony of the Ormoc Museum. The evening unfolded like a symphony of goodwill, uniting hearts under the banner of safety and celebration. Program activity was welcomed by the City Health Officer, Dr. Sarah Q. Hermoso.
Adorned with twinkling lights, the museum balcony became a stage for community leaders, passionate advocates, and citizens to join hands in ushering in a safe and joyous holiday season. Embraced by the city's historical backdrop, the event exuded warmth and purpose.
The campaign's essence bloomed through engaging informative campaign overview graced by the Health Promotion Unit Head of DOH-EVCHD, Dr. Marvin Jed Soledad, fostering a sense of responsibility and care among the attendees.
The launching culminated in a shared moment of unity, as DOH-EVCHD HPU staff dance the music of Ligtas Christmas campaign, to uphold safety measures while spreading the spirit of Christmas, ensuring that joy and well-being resonated in every corner of Ormoc City during the holiday season.
Our dedicated City Health Office staff (Maria Aileen S. de Paz - HEPO and Mark Angelo S. Cotiangco - CESU) conducted hospital rounds to ensure readiness on the firecracker related-injuries. They distributed informative tarpaulins and engaged in radio plugging to promote a safer and healthier festive season for everyone.
January 10, 2024 - Ormoc City Health Office together with the six District Health Centers convened their screens to join the webinar in the celebration of Liver Cancer and Hepatitis awareness month.
In this digital lay forum, healthcare professionals gained updates on the topics of each discussants, nurturing a collective vow to protect and empower the community through raising awareness.
The webinar's echo lingered, igniting their unified commitment in the fight for healthier tomorrows.
January 12, 2024 - A successful conduct of our Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Forum at ACLC.
This enlightening session provided crucial insights and guidance on navigating this important aspect of adolescent health.
As part of our commitment to strenghten the advocacy and leverage the community in increasing their health seeking behavior. A launching of the National Deworming month and Vitamin A supplementation was held last January 12, 2024 at Brgy. Cogon Gym. The activity were participated by the the Ormoc Nutrition Section, Brgy. Cogon Council, DOH HRH and Parents of the target children.

Reflecting on the meaningful joint celebration of World Leprosy Day at the Ormoc City Health Office!
It was truly an honor to raise awareness and support for those affected by leprosy. Through informative discussions, and compassionate activity of "KILATIS KUTIS", we we're working towards a world where leprosy stigma is eradicated, and every individual affected receives the care and respect they deserve.
Together, we can break barriers, foster understanding, and build a more inclusive society. Let's continue to stand in solidarity and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Highlighting our Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Forum held during SLRC's Career Week last January 31, 2024!
It was an engaging and enlightening session aimed at empowering our youth with essential knowledge and skills for a healthier future.
February 02, 2024- Grateful for the enlightening discussion we had on early clubfoot detection and referral with our visitor from Miracle Feet Philippines!
Dr. Jeanne Pierre Filler- Leung and Ms. Hyacinth Garin Babag do the honor of giving the fruitful discussion.
It was incredibly insightful to learn more about the importance of early intervention and treatment for clubfoot, ensuring that every child has the opportunity for a healthy and fulfilling life.
By raising awareness and promoting early detection, we're empowering families and healthcare professionals to take proactive steps towards addressing clubfoot and providing the necessary support and resources.
Together, we can make a significant impact in improving the lives of children affected by this condition. Let's continue to collaborate, learn, and advocate for inclusive healthcare practices.

March 31, 2024 - In observance of Rabies Awareness Month, the City Health Department and City Veterinary Office have played a multifaceted role in raising awareness about rabies, implementing preventive measures, and responding to potential rabies threats to protect public health and safety. Several activities were lined-up as a manifestation to their commitment in preventing this deadly disease.
Overall, by practicing responsible pet ownership, pet owners not only can promote the health, safety, and well-being of pets, but also minimizing any negative impact on the surrounding community and environment.
The Ormoc City Health Department proudly celebrated World Immunization Week from April 24-30, 2024 with the theme “50 years Immunization: Kapag Bakuna ay Kumpleto, Lahat Protektado.” Our highlight for this year is the Pertussis Awareness Campaign at Robinsons Mall for our dedicated healthcare workers. Equipping our frontline heroes with knowledge to protect and educate our communities. The activity was attended by SP Member on Health Dr. Edmund Kierulf, Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Head Mr. Boyd Roderick Cerro, Regional National Immunization Program Manager Ms. Chiradee Claridad, Regional Health Education and Promotion Officer Ms. Ma. Rosario Juntilla, Development Management Officer Ms. Elsie Jaca, Dr. Denise Sembrano -Pediatrician, Dr. Cecile Louise Dejano -Chief Technical Officer of City Health, District Physicians, Nurses, RHMs and our Barangay Health Workers.
Also, an insightful Immunization Lecture was conducted to the selected barangays aiming to increase awareness and understanding of the critical role vaccines play in protecting our communities.
Regional Cervical Cancer Awareness Month Launch: A Day of Advocacy and Action in Ormoc City
On May 21, 2024, the DepEd Training Hall in Ormoc City Division was abuzz with a powerful sense of community and purpose as Department of Health Regional Office launched Regional Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. This event marked the beginning of a dedicated campaign to educate and empower our community about the importance of cervical cancer prevention and early detection.
The morning session kicked off with a welcome speech from Dr. Marvin Jed Soledad, DOH-EVCHD Health Promotion Unit Head, followed with SP member on Health Dr. Edmund B. Kierulf, who emphasized the critical need for awareness and proactive health measures. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Chicanee Alvarinao, EVMC Gynecologic- Oncologist, shared eye-opening statistics that highlighted the impact of cervical cancer on women and their families. Her words resonated deeply with everyone in attendance, igniting a shared commitment to take action. A ceremonial HPV vaccination was conducted for 100 students aged 10-19 years old. Present also were Dr. Antonio Ida, PDOHO-North Leyte DMO V, EVMC Obstetrician and Gynecologists, Ormoc City POGS, Ormoc City Health Department staff and personnel, Ormoc City Division DepEd Superintendent Dr. Bernadas and staff, BHW and BNS Officers, Private schools representative, Target students and community lay partners. The launching was graced with closing message by Dr. Antonio Ida, PDOHO-North Leyte DMO V.
In the afternoon, the event transitioned from awareness to action. A dedicated team from Ormoc City Consultants and EVMC Obstetrician and Gynecologists conducted free cervical cancer screenings for 75 women from our community. The screening process was handled with utmost care and professionalism, ensuring that each woman felt comfortable and supported. It was heartening to see so many women take this important step towards safeguarding their health.
The event was not just about raising awareness but also about building a supportive network for women.
Volunteers from EVMC were on hand to answer questions and offer guidance on follow-up care and resources available within the community.
Health and Promotion of the City Health Department is incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of this event – the dedicated healthcare workers, the enthusiastic volunteers, and the courageous women who participated in the screenings. Together, we are making strides towards a healthier, more informed Ormoc City.

We are thrilled to share the success of the Onboarding for All Stakeholders involved in the Healthy Community Setting Playbook Implementation, which took place from July 17-19, 2024 at Pongos Hotel. This vital event brought together key partners and advocates in our shared mission to foster healthier and more resilient communities.
We were honored to have Ms. Janara Perez and Ms. Ruth Berlyn from the Department of Health Eastern Visayas Center for Health and Development as our esteemed resource speakers. Their insights and expertise were invaluable in guiding the participants on the effective implementation of the playbook, ensuring that we are equipped to create sustainable and impactful health initiatives in our communities.
A huge thank you to the Program Coordinators who serve also as a resource speaker of their programs handled and to everyone who participated, and we look forward to continuing this meaningful journey towards building healthier communities together!

SUCCESSFUL KICK-OFF OF FAMILY PLANNING MONTH: HER HEALTH HUB EVENT!
Ormoc City Health Department thrilled to share the success of our HER HEALTH HUB event held last August 7, 2024 at Brgy. Can-Adieng Covered Court!
The event was a powerful start to Family Planning Month, offering essential health services and information to our community. Our services included:

HIV Awareness Sessions
We are also proud to announce that this event marked the FIRST USE of the Womens Health on Wheels (WHOW) Truck in Eastern Visayas! This innovation brought healthcare services directly to the people, making it more accessible to everyone.
A huge thank you to LGU-City Government of Ormoc, DOH-EVCHD, IPGDO, Technical Program Support Division, District Health Doctors and Staff, to all our partners, healthcare workers, Barangay Health Worker and Nutrition Scholars, volunteers and Barangay Can-Adieng Council who made this event a resounding success.

Public Awareness Campaign in Response to Dengue Outbreak and MPOX Advocacy
In light of the recent declaration of a State of Calamity due to the Dengue outbreak in Ormoc City, we are stepping up efforts to spread awareness and empower our community. Ormoc City Health Promotion team has been visiting various colleges across the city to raise awareness about dengue prevention and control, helping ensure that our students, staff, and families stay informed and protected.
Alongside this, we are also actively promoting health education on MPOX(Monkeypox) to further strengthen our community's knowledge on emerging health threats. By understanding the risks and prevention strategies, we can all contribute to the well-being of Ormoc.
