First Train Of The Year
First Train Of The Year
Thursday, 1st January 2026
Marking the start of their diamond jubilee year, the Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters' Association ran a special train on new years' day hauled by No.11 Maitland calling at the station shortly after 12.30pm marking the first arrival of the year.
The group was established in 1966 when the future of the railway was by no means certain, and went on to resurrect the Groudle Glen Railway from 1982 whilst maintaining activities on the railway, notably including a slotted post signal for Castletown Station in 2012.
Volunteers from the group were also instrumental in setting up the Friends Of... back in 2009 and regularly assist their activities today, both with manpower and financially including funds for platform furniture and signage in more recent times - working together for our railway.
