Patrons’ Car Park Resurfacing
Patrons’ Car Park Resurfacing
Tuesday, 10th February 2026
During the closed season one of the most long-awaited tasks has been carried out at the station; from the middle of January 2026 the railway patrons' car park was closed off while contractors began preparations for the much anticipated macadam surface being replaced.
The area, which was until modifications in 1994 part of the old goods yard and sidings, was surveyed last year and by the middle of February work was completed ahead of the first trains of the season on Thursday 19th March, details of which may be found here.
The accompanying images show work in progress on the site, and it is great to see these improvements being carried out to the site, one of th most historic on the railway. Several other works were progressed over the winter, notably the replacement of picket fencing and re-wiring of the goods shed electrics.
