Counselors, watch out for the final (and most important!) meeting during Dead Week (5/27-30)
Camp Allegro is a student-run summer band camp for middle schoolers in the San Ramon Valley. This week-long day camp is geared towards musicians entering grades 6 - 9 who have at least one year of experience on a wind, string, or percussion instrument. This event is an excellent learning opportunity, as well as a chance to meet new friends.
Campers spend the week learning more about their instruments with high school volunteer mentors. Campers engage in a number of different performance groups including large ensembles, small ensembles, sectionals, and specialized workshops (such as percussion, conducting, jazz, and more).
This year, Ed Cloyd, director of the Monte Vista High School instrumental music program, will conduct the week of morning rehearsals, letting middle school musicians learn what it's like to be in an outside high school band room environment. Student counselors run activities like tye dye, ultimate frisbee, and obstacle courses in the afternoons.
The week will end with a fantastic concert in Monte Vista High School's Al Gentile Theater, showcasing how much these outstanding musicians have learned in one short week.
