The activities at our day camp are designed to keep the students' minds engaged while providing plenty of options to enhance and excite their musical learning process.
Each day of camp is made up of large ensemble studies, small ensemble studies and sectionals studies. We break up our day with team building musical exercises, games, and arts and crafts.
Musical exploration is always exciting for our campers as they look forward to first-hand experience with unique instruments such as those used for percussion and Marching Band.
The week flies by as our campers work towards their final performances, both in their sectional groups, and the performance in the band as a whole. Both the campers and their parents are amazed at the amount of learning the campers come away with as they reflect on how much fun they had!
Parents are encouraged to attend our final performance. Bring your cameras and recorders. You'll be amazed at how much your musician has learned in such a short period of time!
We provide a post-performance celebration and dinner to provide our campers time to wind down, review our week of successes and fun, exchange photos and contact information with their new friends and teachers, and reassemble as a team one last time before saying goodbye until next summer. New this year, Friday night's dinner will be included in tuition!
Large ensembles: All campers play together in this ensemble, under the tutelage of counselors and Mr. Cloyd.
Small Ensembles: Campers divide into sections to work on duets, trios, quartets, and other small groups with songs of their choice.
Sectionals: Campers are grouped by instrument to receive individualized attention from counselors on technique, tone, and to work on pieces for the large ensemble.
Musical and Team-building Games: We like to surprise campers with fun-filled afternoon activities that keep the camp spirited and fun! Campers can choose to participate in various games for team points like soccer or frisbee.
Arts and Crafts: Every year, campers tie dye the current year's camp t-shirt to wear for the final concert. Other arts and crafts activities are included throughout each day.
Specialized Workshops and Showcases: We provide a fun intro to percussion, brass, conducting, marching band and more aspects of our band program at Monte Vista
