Quartus
Quartus is a comprehensive software suite for the design, analysis, and implementation of programmable logic devices such as FPGAs (Field-Programmable Gate Arrays), CPLDs (Complex Programmable Logic Devices), and SoCs (System on a Chip). The software is developed by Intel and is widely used in digital design and electronic engineering. Some of the key features of Quartus include Design Entry, Simulation, Synthesis and programming FPGAs.
ModelSim
ModelSim is an essential tool in the digital design and verification flow, allowing engineers to thoroughly test and debug their designs in a simulated environment before moving on to hardware implementation. ModelSim complies with industry standards for HDL simulation, making it compatible with a wide range of digital design tools and workflows.
Operating System
Windows is the preferred operating system to run the Quartus and ModelSim. Software is also compatible with Linux based machines as well. However, Windows is preferable. Software is not compatible with MacOS. If you have a MacOS, your best bet would be to install Windows as a Virtual Machine through applications such as Parallels.
