Rocky Mountain Fisher House
Many veterans and active-duty military undergo extended medical treatment for several weeks or months at medical facilities and Rocky Mountain Fisher House provides families of these individuals a place to stay at no cost. The Rocky Mountain Regional VA Fisher House has sixteen suites, each with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facility, a warm dining room, and an inviting living room.
The house is operated by the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System and supported by the Rocky Mountain Fisher House Foundation. The VA is responsible for maintenance, operations, upkeep, and staff. Guests of the facility must be a family member, friend or caregiver of either an Active-Duty service member or Veteran.
The majority of their guests have a loved one who is a patient at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. However, Veterans and/or Active-Duty personnel may be eligible to stay if accompanied by a caregiver or if undergoing extended outpatient care. Some exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. Please call the Fisher House at 720-723-7683 or e-mail VHAECHFisherHouse@va.gov for more information.
Denver Vet Center
Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling to eligible Veterans, active-duty service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families. Readjustment counseling is offered to make a successful transition from military to civilian life or after a traumatic event experienced in the military. Individual, group, marriage and family counseling is offered in addition to referral and connection to other VA or community benefits and services. Vet Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the tragedies of war, loss, grief and transition after trauma. For more information see Denver Vet Center | Veterans Affairs (va.gov) or call 303-326-0645. There is a 24/7 phone line at 877-927-8387.
