What is an Agent Letter and how do I get one?
10 Apr 21
If you are the family member of an elderly military retiree, or their surviving spouse, that has trouble getting around on their own you can get official authorization to shop for them, as their “agent”, at the commissary, exchange, and base pharmacy. You will require:
- A letter from the care provider (doctor) of the retiree/surviving spouse saying they need assistance in order to access base facilities such as the commissary, exchange, pharmacy, etc.
- Two forms of ID (passport, driver’s license, military ID, etc.)
- The agent’s driver’s license
- The sponsor’s military ID
Go to the Military Personnel Flight (MPF) on the base where you want to shop. They will have you (the “agent”) and the retiree/surviving spouse fill out the applicable form. Once the form is completed you will be issued an “Agent Letter” which you will take to the base Visitor Control Center (VCC). Security will issue you a card/letter which will allow you to access the base and to use those facilities without your retiree/surviving spouse being with you. This form will have to be renewed annually. For any questions, or more details, on this process please contact your local MPF.

For Buckley AFB:
On Buckley AFB you get the Agent Letter at the MPF in Bldg 606 (Mission Support Building). You do NOT need to make an appointment to get this done. The MPF will have you fill out a “Commissary/AAFES/MWR Escort Authorization" form. You can contact the MPF call center at 720-847-4357 Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri from 1200-1500 if you have questions about the process.
Once you fill out the form the MPF then issues you an Agent Letter, which you will take back to the Visitor Control Center (VCC) building at the 6th Ave gate onto Buckley AFB. The Security folks there will then give you a DBIDS type card (or whatever) that will allow you to come on base without the retiree to use those base facilities.
