Social Security & Medicare Workshops

Are there any places that offer workshops/seminars about social security and/or Medicare?

  We sometimes have retirees contacting us looking for more information about social security and/or Medicare.  For social security they are often wondering about filing strategies, when to start collecting, etc.  For Medicare they typically are looking for information on how it works, what their options are, how it interacts with Tricare for Life (TFL), etc.  There are usually various organizations that offer free seminars and workshops on these subjects that can be very informative. When I was becoming eligible for both social security and Medicare, I attended workshops like this myself to get more educated on my options.  While I always had a set of questions I wanted to ask at the presentation, invariably there were other people attending that had questions I never thought of, so I found them very useful.

  Oftentimes these presentations are provided by financial management companies.  While they may be hoping to get you as a client to manage your portfolio, you can always find presentations where you are not obligated to become a customer who uses their services and pays them money.
