Over and Dead

Words & Music by Brent Lindsay Boehler © 1980 SOCAN

I wrote 'Over and Dead' one rainy night in Calgary in 1980 on an old upright piano, with a bottle of wine and a pack of smokes eh.

Lady, I’m sorry, time went by and I lost all control
Maybe in our story, I’ll end it all and then we’ll let go
The final entrance, the closing of the show
There’s nothing left now and no where to go
The candles burnt now and with it went the goal
This ones over and dead, please don’t let it go to your head

So lady, you see now, time for us to make our ways alone
Together would be fatal, the roads divided follow it on our own
I see no future in carrying on
The lust is over, it’s dead and gone
For simple morals we must disarm
This ones over and dead, please don’t let it go to your head

You must believe me when I say I love you but something’s gone wrong
Lay down memories, live for tomorrow, be strong
We’ll find the answer lives in the question, is it really that far
In the end final discretion shows who you are, yes I know who you are, yes I know who you are

So lady I love you, just where are you from
My mind is confusion, emotions say it is done
Following suit I know its my turn
Light the bridges and let them burn
Logic answers its not my concern
This ones over and dead, please don’t let it go to your head
