Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an inquiry-based learning process. It promotes greater student engagement and deeper understanding. This sketch note, created by Trevor Mackenzie and Sylvia Duckworth, illustrates why you should consider inquiry-based learning in your classroom.
In this video, FCPS's Jeff Lonnett explains PBL in 90 seconds.

One misconception I've encountered surrounding PBL is that it's only appropriate for our academically gifted students, and that it's too rigorous for our struggling learners. On the contrary, PBL is for all students, and we should work to promote equitable access to this type of learning. This short blog post makes connections to work of Eric Jensen that we've read and discussed.
If you search for #PBLinFCPS, you'll access tweets from across the county highlighting PBLs. This is a great resource for seeing PBL in action, as well as for networking with other teachers who are designing and implementing PBL with their students. Take a moment to scroll through this feed and explore PBLs across FCPS.
Another great resource is #TechYesPBL which consists of tweets providing tech tips and highlighting digital tools that can facilitate the PBL process.
FCPS offers many PBL resources. One of my favorites is the FCPS PBL website. This is created within the FCPS Google domain, so you must be logged into your account to access it. You'll find informative videos, a PBL database that includes projects that have been implemented across the county with links to materials you'll need to implement in your classroom, and more. Spend some time exploring this site, then bookmark it!
This presentation, by Christie Day, demonstrates a variety of ways that technology can be leveraged to facilitate the PBL process.
After exploring the above resources, what excites you about PBL? What reservations do you have about designing and implementing PBL with your students? Share your thoughts to this Padlet.
