Welcome to my professional development site on blended learning! By participating in these lessons, you'll understand what blended learning is and build capacity to design and implement blended learning in your classroom!
Blended learning is learning that takes place at least partly online and in which students have some element of control over time, place, pace, and path. Blended learning also emphasizes students' 21st century skills like communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, which should sound familiar as those are Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes!
Digital tools, when leveraged intentionally, can provide students with meaningful learning experiences, facilitate purposeful assessments like Project-Based Learning (PBL) and guided inquiry, all while granting children access to the curriculum. When blended learning is thoughtfully designed and implemented, it can cultivate a learner-centered environment where students are engaged and leading their own their learning.
In short, blended learning aligns with constructivist philosophy in which students are not passive recipients of information, but are actively constructing their own knowledge.
Blended learning isn't about the technology - it's about student-centered and intentional instructional design that promotes students' acquisition of content knowledge, as well as the skills they'll need to be successful in the 21st century.
I've thoughtfully designed each lesson, leveraging technology to amplify learner-content, learner-learner, and learner-instructor interactions. By participating in the professional development opportunities listed below, you will build your knowledge of blended learning, as well as your capacity to design and implement blended learning opportunities for students in your classrooms.
I'd greatly appreciate your feedback, so please take the short survey at the end of each lesson.
