The promise that Oak Hill improvements will create a robust winter recreational center is incredibly exciting and the product of countless good efforts by many dedicated and visionary individuals on behalf of the town. Hanover Bike Walk strongly supports this project and its promotion of outdoor activity in all seasons. Oak Hill is the site of cross country skiing, mountain biking, hiking, nature walks and frisbee golf, and connects down to Storrs Pond, up to the Trescott Lands and Reservoirs, and north to Fullerton Farm Field.
The Hanover Bike Walk Committee’s concern is that this Oak Hill gem be accessible.
Hanover Bike Walk specifically thinks this project should include:
1) a safe way to walk through or around the parking lot from Oak Hill Dr to the ski center and warming hut (such as a sidewalk or shared-use path), and
2) safe and inviting accommodations for people walking and biking along
Reservoir Rd and down Oak Hill Dr to the Oak Hill and Storrs Pond areas (such as a shared-use path, or advisory lanes).
3) use of an “active” wheelchair symbol instead of a traditional non-active symbol
4) bike racks
UPDATE: A pedestrian path has been added!
The path will be ~5 feet in width, and will have a stone dust surface, so maintainable in the winter, and leads from Oak Hill Drive around the west side of the parking lot to the ticket office (highlighted in pink in the New Plans 2.12.2024 document).
