The South African Naval Museum dates back to 1966 when a naval historical collection was displayed at the Castle of Good Hope Military Museum in Cape Town. Re-opened at Simon's Town on 1st April 1993, the display comprises exhibitions of the historic clock tower, part of the sail loft, the history and function of the Submarine, Divers and Weapons branch; ship and Submarine models; a full-scale replication of a Ship’s Bridge and a Submarine’s Operations and Control Room; Naval Guns, Torpedoes, an Anti-Submarine Mortar, Sea Mines, Mine-sweeping equipment, Diving equipment, Naval Small Craft, Naval Uniforms, Navy Personnel Portraits, fire fighting wagons and equipment, the South African Training Ship ‘General Botha’ collection, UAV's and a SAN Westland Wasp.
