9 Jean Batten Drive, Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand 3116
Date of visit: 20th & 21st February 2017
Classic Flyers was initially funded entirely by a group of individuals who got together to create a live museum to protect the rich and precious history of New Zealand aviation. As a non-commercial Trust, all takings from the museum, on site cafe & shop, and their events go back into preserving their aviation heritage. A purpose-built facility has been created at the entrance of the Tauranga Airport, on Jean Batten Drive, Mount Maunganui. The emphasis is on creating a living, dynamic Museum with a high degree of operational activity - with many aircraft movements to and from the facility.
Its grand opening, on 28th May 2005, was celebrated with an air display, which are now held on a regular basis.
The museum is live, so exhibits regularly change within the hangars.
