Via Circumlacuale, 00062 Vigna di Valle RM
Date of visit: 20th June 2023
The Museo Storico Aeronautica Militaire is located on the shores of Lake Bracciano, inside the historic headquarters of the ancient hydroport of Vigna di Valle, the oldest aircraft establishment in Italy. Inaugurated in 1977, the museum's origin is linked to one of the fathers of Italian aviation Major Maurizio Moris, Brigade Commander of the Corps of Engineers, who in 1907 created the Experimental Aircraft Factory Workshop in Vina di Valle and an airship flying School in 1910.
Operated by the Aeronautica Militare, the museum recently reopened in June 2023 having undergone a major refurbishment. Over 80 aircraft chart the history of Italian aviation and are set out in chronological order via a defined route through the 5 themed hangars, each having their own history to tell.
