DOWNLOADING FONTS

As an artist, sometimes your best friend is TYPE. Known specifically as FONTS, these symbols, characters, and letters of the alphabet are often the only tool a designer has when creating a new logo, advertisement or other graphic. Whether the reason is a of a lack of time, a lack of money, or the decision to only use type, a designer may pass up using a professional photographer, buying stock images, or hiring an illustrator to create an image. Instead, using the FONTS in the artist's library to create the visual.

For our next assignment we will need the help of some custom designed fonts, which we will download from the site below:

FONT DOWLOADING INSTRUCTIONS: Follow these step-by-step instructions in order to use the desired font.

1 ) Click on the THEME of the type of font you would like to use.

2 ) Once in the THEME, you can type the word you would like to see in the PREVIEW field. (Where it says "AVERSO")

Press the SUBMIT button, and this will allow you to see the word in all the fonts, as you search for the one you want.

3 ) When you find the font you would like to use, Click the grey DOWNLOAD button.



4 ) When the download is complete, the font will appear at the bottom of the internet browser window, as shown above. Click on the grey arrow to OPEN THE FONT FILE.


5 ) The font will then appear in the Download Window, as shown above.

The font is usually sitting alone with the font name and the extension .otf or .ttf after it. Double-Click the file to open it once again.

Occasionally the font is hidden in a FOLDER of the same name. Double-Click the folder to open it and look for the .otf/.ttf file there.

6 ) After you double-click the font file this INSTALL FONT window will appear. Click the INSTALL FONT button.

Once you have completed this LAST STEP, the font will be available in the Fonts list back in Adobe Illustrator. Don't forget the font NAME!
