A fashion mood board (or inspiration board) is a collage of images and objects that highlights a specific visual style in physical or digital form. Fashion mood boards can include magazine clippings, photographs, color swatches, fabric swatches, texture samples, models, places, promotional techniques, and the process of the designs.
The purpose of a fashion mood board is to help you identify common themes in your fashion interests. This design tool can help you choose a specific direction for a look, provide inspiration for new outfits, define a color palette, or to present upcoming fashion trends and seasonal lines.
Your mood board assignment will start with research. Consider these questions before you start designing your digital mood board:
What designer will you be creating a mood board for?
What are the demographics of your designer's customers?
For example - How old are the customers? Where do they live? What gender are they? How much money do they make?
What season or line will you be creating a mood board for?
For example - Are you presenting a board showcasing a brand's fall line or are you launching a new line all together?
Once you have a solid idea of your board's theme and have collected all of your images, the first part of your assignment is to create your first of 3 mood boards.
Your first mood board should be created in Photoshop using a Landscape Orientation layout, measuring 11 inches wide by 8.5 inches high.
Price, Product and the People
The images that you have collected should represent the Price, the Product and the People who would wear it.
Your digital board should also include a title as shown in the example.
