Toothpick Sculpture

Toothpick sculpture challenge

Your assignment is to create a sculpture composed of multiple units. The units will be made from 100 supplied toothpicks attached to a base.

Below is an example of a UNIT. A unit is a shape of connected toothpicks that form the building blocks of your sculpture.

Once you decide on the shape and size of your UNIT, duplicate that unit multiple times.

  • YOU CAN HAVE MORE THAN ONE UNIT SHAPE.

THINK ABOUT THESE PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN >>

SPACE

Space refers to the area around, within, and occupied by the three-dimensional object, as well as the way these areas interact.

MOVEMENT

Creating a path for the viewer's eye to follow allowing them to experience the sculpture.

BALANCE

Creating a sense of weight. Symmetrical balance adds objects to both sides of the center of a work to create symmetry.
